Things to do

Ceredigion has a 60 mile (96km) section of the Wales Coast Path. With high cliffs, secret coves and sandy beaches, much of this section of the Ceredigion Coast Path is designated Heritage Coast. The summer colours are stunning as you walk the path amongst wildflowers between sea and sky and you may well spot seals, dolphins and whales. The crumpled rock formations in the cliffs are fascinating. As well as great views north towards Snowdonia and south towards Pembrokeshire, the Ceredigion Coast path has a wealth of wildlife, geological and archaeological features and a colourful history to discover. There are seven sections of the Coast Path equivalent to seven days walking. Each section ends in a town or village where you can find accommodation and transport. The dramatic sections starting at Llangrannog are Llangrannog to Newquay (9.4m) via Cwmtydu and Llangrannog to Aberporth (4.8m) via Penbryn and Tresaith.

Bring your own kit or hire water sports equipment in the village for kayaking, surfing and paddleboarding. Take a boat trip from Newquay for dolphin and seal watching.

For a fascinating glimpse of life in a country estate visit Llanerchaeron where you can see the dairy, laundry and ironing room, the bakery and other domestic areas as well as exploring the beautiful house designed by John Nash and the gardens. Check the NT website for opening times. Cardigan Castle has little of the 12th century castle remaining but the Georgian Mansion, lovely gardens and restaurant are well worth a visit.

To eat in the village you have a great choice. There are two pubs – the Pentre and the Ship, serving ‘pub grub’. Booking is advisable for both. Or relax at The Beach Hut which has great breakfasts, lunches and early evening meals as well as serving traditional fish and chip takeaways. Lovely teas, cakes and ice creams, as well as savoury snacks are served at Caffi Patio overlooking the beach. Tafell a Tân Wood Fired Pizzas is a welcome addition to the village offering a range of delicious pizzas, side dishes and cakes. Mostly takeaway but there is limited indoor space as well.

Further afield check out Pizza Tipi or the Castle Restaurant 1176 both in Cardigan, Harbour Master in Aberaeron or the Ferry Inn at St Dogmaels.
